Letter This letter concerns tax forms and discusses at length the situation regarding the Duke's racehorses at Newmarket. Apparently the Duke must either enter them on the list or pay for them separately as he would have to do with any other article not now kept and included in the "composition". Two lists are therefore included - one with the race horses and one without so that the appropriate one can be used. Mr Bennett proposes to go down to Exeter for a few days to visit an old relation and whilst there plans to visit Mr Benson, also Tavistock and Endsleigh so will call at the London Office in case there is anything to take. Mr Bennett has looked over the farm for sale at Stevington and comments that he does not know of an investment so little desirable. He sets out his reasons among which is the fact that the bad land adjoins the Duke's land - the good land is some distance. There has been a suggestion that the Duke should do a deal with adjacent landlords, Mr T A Green and Mr Alston. Bennett points out that, apart from the inconveniences attached to copyhold property, the Duke is not a land jobber.
