Letter Mr W Bennett appears to ask only what would be routine for his Lewsey Farm house repairs except for an indoor water closet which is not customary and is better outside in the country. After repair his house will be up to standard "he has no right to expect more and I have no desire to give him less". Regarding claims for the Duke and his tenants for compensation from the compensation from the Bletchley to Bedford railway. Bennett suggests it may be advisable for the Duke to appoint a valuer rather than him to meet the Company Valuer, or it might appear to the tenants that he represents the Duke's interests at the expense of theirs. He would also advise them for the remainder of their leases he would deduct a certain amount of annual rent for land taken away, but for loss of income they must look to the Company. He suggests Mr Cummings might suitably be the valuer and will approach him if Mr Haedy approves. Perkins was paid wages until midsummer so his wife's pension should properly start then and he will inform her on his next visit to Oakley. The Duke thinks the game establishment decided last year was perhaps too large, but "with reference to the present men his Grace does not at this time see how it is to be reduced".
