Letter Reads- In the list of "notices to quit" sent for the Duke's approval prior to Lady Day, Mr Henry Whitbread of Ampthill was included. He appeared to be in difficulty and was in arrears of rent. However, he has now cleared the rent arrears and produced a guarantee from his son "a responsible man" that while his father is in occupation the rent will be paid punctually. He therefore withheld the notice. He now finds that other people who have lent Mr Whitbread money to stock the farm are proposing to sell his effects for repayment. He therefore proposes to divide the land(about 80 acres grass) - one field which cuts into Mr Swaffield's land to him, one field to the farm at How End, Houghton and the remaining 45 acres to Mr Furze, the auctioneer, who occupies some ploughed land at Millbrook and would like to have some grass.
