- TitleLetter Reads- Enclosed a letter from Mr W Bennett of Lewsey. Lord Charles Russell on the opposite side of the meeting may not have caught the offensive expression Mr W Bennett made when concluding his speech on the effect of the repeal of the Corn Laws upon the corn rent. He spoke of the adverse effect of the repeal of corn laws and also the loss of the Annual Sale for which he blames Mr [T] Bennett. He complained at his first sale with an "unbecoming remark" about the amount he was paid, itself sufficient to justify not employing him again. He will tell him his letter has been forwarded to Mr Haedy and enter into no further correspondence. How unlike Christmas, mild and soft and the blackbirds and the thrushes singing before day light.
