Letter Reads- Bennett does not understand why the Duke thinks William Purser is not getting on well on his farm at Cople. Bennett had told Purser the rent of his farm to commence from next Michaelmas when his present term is up and that the Duke had let it for 12 or 16 years. Purser did not object to the rent but said that, on account of his outlay, 40 per annum less would be appropriate. Bennett could not listen to this an informed the agent accordingly. He intended to require a definite answer on Tuesday but, having received a letter from the Agent, did not pursue the matter. Bennett has paid 5 to the Rector of Wymington. He has informed Mr. S. Bailey that the Duke is willing to give 100 for the Eversholt cottages. He has finished the audit and has remitted Messrs. Child a draft for 6000.
