Letter Reads- Lord Ashburnham to sell his Bedford Estates in Lots by auction in the course of a month or as soon as they can be ready for sale. Clapham be offered in 3 lots. The Tithe Rent Charges arising out of Oakley Littlewood paid by the Duke to Lord Ashburnham should not be put up for sale but offered to Duke privately. Reports a fire at Odell's at Cople last Thursday. Temporary building destroyed, but adjoining buildings which had recently been repaired and rebuilt were by good fortune saved. Cannot explain how fire started - Odell a good master, stands well with his men, no reason to think started deliberately. Particular about his men not smoking, but found a pipe in pocket of the steadiest man - many people smoke in the morning as to go to work. Complaint concerning Mr. Purser's ditches. Every farmer knows must keep his ditches open unless he runs risk of being flooded as well as his neighbour, but this year flood came down so fast that could not receive brook water fast enough.
