- TitleLetter Reads- Have looked at May's cottages & gardens at Millbrook with Swaffield; worth 320, or to keep others out 350. May says 400. Duke inclined to convert Froxfield gardens & nursery into pasture; he says too much kitchen garden - potatoes quite as well grown on farm. That part used by Forbes as nursery for ornamental plants does not answer well; old garden soil exhausted. Ford's machine will not work in the Crawley clay; very stiff; if soft as machine requires, the tiles do not keep their shape, nor leave the bottom clean. Also I believe the quantity claimed to be made in a day (8,000 by 1 man, 3 boys) exaggerated; still it has merit; will try it with 13" box for 12" tile. Herring's 2 mules arrived: 50.
