  • Title
Letter from George Bridle, Bedford to Duke Concerns unfortunate master of Bedford School: when Priaulx died in 1739, writer was presented by New College, and Mr. Bowles was presented to the ushership. As there were only 3 boys, Bridle dispensed with the usher and received the united salary; it was less than 50 p.a. and after all the writer's education cost 600-700. Now a Chancery decree has been given against him, and he is directed to refund the usher's salary. There is now an usher "long since". Asks for help in extricating himself from this tangle.
