Letter from Richard Disbrowe of Thornhaugh to John, 4th Duke of Bedford Reads- (To his grace the Duke) All the rents at Thornhaugh have been punctually paid, but there are some regulations as to the tenants management of their land that need clarification, if Your Grace would care to come into these parts this Summer. I'm just about to receive the rents at Thorney. Have had a complaint from the Keeper at Thornhaugh who has difficulty providing for his family as "my Lord Exeter has the conveniency of keeping the Dear from returning to your Graces Woods, and this hard winter the rabbits have done damage so as the Keeper has had to destroy them in all parts of the Lordship". He complains he can have little or no benefit besides his wages of 20 a year and 5 a year your Grace pays for his cloaths, whihc is barely sufficient, as he has to find a servant to help him shoot in the winter for the game he sends your grace, He would either like an addition to his wages or leave to accept of My Lord Westmorelands place joyned with your graces which he has been offered. Westmoreland needs him in the summer for the deer and your grace needs him in the winter for killing game, so it would be very convenient. He is a sober diligent person.
