Title
Letter from Richard Disbrowe of Thorney to Robert Butcher of Bedford House
Reads- Have just been to the corporation meeting at Ely, and much better treated than I was last time in London. My accounts passed and my salary; it was observed that the officers of the South and Middle Levers were allowed far more than we are for the North. Have made a willow hedge at the Gulls on the North bank to keep the gravell from washing down. Needs a large winter flood to test it. The tenants' rents at Thorney and Thornhaugh. Being a dry season some of the tenants wish to start burning off their lands early. His Grace wishes me to be careful in giving permits for burning. Am I right that only 5 acres in 100 should be burnt? Have not received leave for Curtis nor your answer to Mr. Massingarbs request, nor the ledger. Have had a look at Mr. Holts design of Flowing the Land from the Dogg and Doublett sluice and will write to him on reconsidering it.
