  • Scope and Content
Received your little Bible before Christmas. Have caused workmen to hedge at Abbotts Wood, almost finished. Old Williamson coming thither & seeing them at work bid them go forward; they said they meant so to do; he was moved not a little; they said I set them on; with that he was vexed & asked what authority I had. Williamson would have them come to him for money. Whom I set on work I will see them paid. They said workmen were working at Mr. Tredwaye's; he said there were some that went about to discredit the dealings of Mr. Bevell and him; "I will hunt the knaves, they shall be brought to Westminster." Who be his knaves I know not. I sent you word in my last that the three -acres will not give 24s.; (note of sums received); I was with Mr. Sapcotts, but no money; write to him again. Master's coming: I would gladly attend according to my duty. Request you send me down by Presson the carrier of Fotheringham a hogshead of the best claret, my bro. Nicholas shall bring you up money for that. Great abuses daily offered to my lord's red deer; 5-6 killed a little before Christmas. The tenants at Thorne will not suffer them about the grounds but hunt them continually away. Mr. Hacks and his son.
