    Draft affidavit from Thomas Field to [his uncle] Charles Nicholls, attorney at law at Hitchin, containing Nicholls' defence against claims by Walter Plummer and Richard Plummer esqs that he agreed to meet the costs of Mr Malet, the Plummers' attorney, and that he agreed to purchase a bill of Equity of Redemption from Richard Waterman. Nicholls says he can't remember the exact contents of the agreement and letter, and has no copy or counterpart of them, despite having searched diligently to find them. Thomas Field ends on a personal note: "I have had & now have the gout & can't come down but will send down the draft of your answer by next post. PS. I had not your letter till late last night & the instructions for your answer are such as no counsel but my self can understand." 1 July 1741
