Lease and release of security by (1) Edmund Herrys, drugster of London to (2) Esperance Herrys, widow of Hexton, mother of (1) By a recent settlement of land in Pegsdon, (1) was obliged to pay 20 pa to (2) during the joint lives of her and Dame Elizabeth Bettisworth of Hexton, widow, and 25 pa after Dame Elizabeth's death. To raise money to buy stock and carry on the trade of drugster, (1) has agreed to sell that land to William Shepperd of Offley, thus invalidating the security for the payments. In consideration of natural love and affection (1) has for (2), he now grants her a third part of: - (a) 16 ac close of meadow in Higham Gobion abutting W the brook between Barton and Higham Gobion, N Bushy Close late of Francis and Richard Taverner, gents, and S Elme Close, which 16 ac close was purchased by the said John Clarke, late father of William Clarke, from Francis and Richard Taverner by Indenture dated 18th April 1649, and which was formerly parcel of the Manor of Higham Gobion - b) 13 ac 2r 434p close of arable in Higham Gobion called Great Field or West Field abutting E land of John Field, W William Brace, N Henry Fuller, also ac 1r arable dispersed in Radworth Field, Barton, of which ac is on Stanbridge Furlong between N the land once of Sir William Bryers deceased, S Nicholas Crouch and others, with one head abutting the Kings Highway N, the other head Chaldes March alias Radworth March W, and the said rood on Pond Furlong between N Henry Fuller and S Thomas Field, E Stanbridge Furlong and W Hall Mill Brook alias Radworth Brooke - (c) 1r in Half Pond Field, Barton in Nether Hilly Furlong between S land of Sir William Bryers, N William [Frupey], W Sharpenhoe Field and E Radworth Field all lately occ by William Clarke and conveyed to Edmund Castell, Doctor of Divinity since deceased, for life then to Edmund, William and Elizabeth Herrys to be divided equally amongst them On reverse, in a different hand: " These belong to my brother Mr Feild"
