Scope and Content
Parties:
(i) Frederick Augustus Page-Turner of 15 Palmeria Square, Hove [Sussex], esquire; William Lee Gates of Luton, grocer; Henry Gates of Sundon, farmer; John Gates of Luton, gentleman;
(ii) Luton Rural District Council;
(iii) Sundon Parish Council
Reciting:
- differences of opinion between the parties on footpaths and bridleways in Sundon;
- (iii) represented to (ii) that (i) had obstructed an alleged path running from Chalton (Toddington) through Sundon to Harlington;
- (ii) had held an enquiry into the right of way;
- (i) were prepared to submit the differences to Commons & Footpaths Preservation Society and accept their decision;
- (ii) and (iii) consented to the arbitration;
- the society had appointed Edward North Buxton JP of Knighton, Buckhurst Hill [Essex], esquire, Anthony Buxton of Knighton, Buckhurst Hill, gentleman and Laurence Wensley Chubb of 25 Victoria Street, Westminster, secretary to act on its behalf;
- a public enquiry had been held in Sundon on 29 Nov 1912

- the CFPS representatives had determined the paths in the schedule and shown on an attached plan were public rights of way;
- parties bound themselves to recognise and abide by the decision of CFPS as set out in schedule and on the map

1. footpath from allotments on Church Road, Sundon, S and SW over railway line to junction with FP7 then W and S of Common Farm, Chalton to Luton Road, Chalton opposite Manor Farm;
2. footpath from Common Lane, Upper Sundon running along the lane W to railway line near cement works where it joined FP8 then NW to Hipsey Spinney, Toddington; the road was assumed to follow Tatnoll Lane as laid out in Sundon Inclosure Award of 1770 as diverted in part by Midland Railway Company;
3. bridleway starting at E side of Red Lion Inn at Upper Sundon running NW past SE corner of Leyhill Lince then into Harlington;
4. footpath starting at corner of Harlington Road in eastern Upper Sundon, running NE across FP10 through copse known as The Firs to Streatley;
5. footpath starting opposite Red Lion Inn, Upper Sundon and BW3 then SE along W side of The Mead to Manor Road, Lower Sundon on W side of Aubers Farm;
6. footpath starting in Chalton on E side of bridge crossing railway line on Luton Road running NE past The Clump through allotments and ending at Church Road, Sundon opposite FP14;
7. footpath beginning in Harlington following W boundary of railway line to Common Barn then across two fields to Long Field then along eastern hedge to join FP1;
8. footpath from Common Barn to Toddington;
9. footpath from Slate Hall, Upper Sundon in W direction on field side of hedge marking boundary of FP2 which it joined at a point nearly opposite Sundon Cement Works;
10. footpath from Harlington passing Woodfield Farm entering parish of Sundon at The Firs then going E to meet Sharpenhoe Road, Streatley;
11. footpath from southernmost point of Streatley Road, Upper Sundon running SE along west side of Clayton Hill to Manor Road, Lower Sundon 150 yards east of Aubers Farm;
12. footpath commencing nearly opposite S end of FP11 along W side of Town Field through Reed Field past NE corner Sundon Wood along W side of West Ware to Luton;
13. footpath leading from Upper Sundon Post Office in Streatley Road running SW over stile on S side of Jacksons Field, intersecting with FP5 and emerging in Lower Sundon at junction of Church Road and Streatley Road;
14. footpath starting on E side of Church Road, Upper Sundon opposite allotments running across Jacksons Field to S side of Peddle Field then along ancient lane ending on The Green near White Hart public house;
15. footpath from Luton Road, Chalton running NW past W side of Common Farm and W side of hedge and ditch dividing Toddington from Sundon over a foot bridge into Toddington
