Scope and Content
Appointed under the Municipal Corporations Act 1882. Duties changed over the years but included things to do with the Borough Police, duties of the Council under Acts relating to dangerous substances, e.g. the Petroleum and Explosives Acts, the Dangerous Drugs Acts etc. They were also responsible for the execution of duties under the War Charities Acts, and those relating to Hackney Carriages. They dealt with licensing, street and house to house collections, riding establishments, heating appliances, weights and measures and were appointed and designated the Executive Committee of the Council under the Diseases of Animals Acts.
