    ABSTRACT OF TITLE of Arthur Stephen Thornton to land in Kempston. Recites (I) indenture 2 April 1878 from 1) John Purser, farmer of Willington, to 2) Thomas Alfred Skelton, architect, of Southampton, for 3139 in fee simple of 15ac 2r 31p in Kempston, bounded N by Kempston to Bedford road, E partly by premises belonging to HM Government used as barracks for soldiers and partly by John Purser, S by Saml Chas Whitbread, W partly by executors of John Hill Day and partly by Henry Harris, and shown on attached plan coloured red. Declaration by (2) barring dower. Covenant by (2) to construct 30' wide road from the High Road before 25 December 1878. Recites (II) Conveyance 25 June 1882 and plan from 1) Thomas Alfred Skelton, architect, of Southampton, to 2) Arthur Stephen Thornton esq of Kempston Grange, for 340 in fee simple of 2 plots on the NE and NW extremities of Spring Road, coloured pink on plan. (1) covenants to - pay towards the upkeep of the road fronting the property; - produce scheduled deed 2 April 1878 between John Purser of Willington, farmer and Thomas Alfred Skelton. (2) covenants that - no more than four houses will be erected on each plot, each house worth at least 100, detached or semi-detached, fronting on Spring Road; - all water closets and privies will adjoin or be in another building and all drains and cesspools will be in the rear of the house; - no building will be nearer the footway than 10'; - all wells will be within 10' of the road; - no excavations will be made other than for the erection of the houses; - no building shall be used as a mill, brewery, inn, tavern, public house, beer house, distillery or slaughter house or for the sale of beer, ale, porter, wine or spiritous liquors from the premises, or for any noisy, noisome, injurious or offensive trade, or any furnace, forge or steam engine or brick-kiln erected or any bricks burnt. Witnesses - Chas. Tuck, Clerk to Messrs Green & Moberly, solicitors, Southampton, and C B Halliley, solicitor, Bedford. Endorsed - by indenture 1882 between (2) and Ebenezer Ball, a portion of the plot labelled lot 2, with 66' frontage to Spring Road and 84' 3" deep, on the southern extremity of lot 2, was conveyed to Ebenezer Ball to build 2 houses. Endorsed - by indenture of 6 October 1883 between the same, a further portion of Lot 2, with 42' frontage to Spring Road and 84' 3" deep, bounded S by the above piece of land, N by remaining land of (2), subject to covenants, was conveyed to Ebenezer Ball to build one house
