Title
Copy of will of William Skevington, baker of Bedford.
To executors Thomas Shelton, butcher of Bedford and Emery Cranfield, farmer of Elstow: - 30 each and all real estate vested in testator as trustee or mortgagee.
To wife Susannah Skevington:
- 50 and all household furniture, books, plate, china, linen stores, wines, liquors, fuel and other articles of consumption not being stock in trade, also his wearing apparel, watch, trinkets and ornaments of the person, if any.
To executors:
- messuage in St John Street, Bedford St Mary which he now occupies,
- 4 messuages in Grey Friars Walk, Bedford St Paul,
- 3 messuages in Kempston,
- all other real estate not otherwise disposed of,
- 2 leasehold messuages in Pepper Alley, "holder of the Master & Co Brethren of St John's Hospital" and all other personal estate, on trust to pay debts and then to his wife should she think proper to continue on her own account his business of baker & farmer, in which case she to have all stock and effects in trade. If she declines to carry on the business, or dies or remarries whilst testator's only son Robert William Skevington is under 21, then either the business to be discontinued, or trustees to cause it to be continued until the son attains 21. When he attains 21 the trustees, on gaining a security from him, will transfer the stock, etc. to him.
To only son Robert William Skevington
- 300 on attaining 21, with up to 100 of it to be applied for his advancement before that.
Testator's wife may continue to live in his dwellinghouse unconditionally. If she remarries, she's to have an annuity of 30 for the rest of her life for her separate use. She is also to receive yearly rents and income from residual personal estate and from the trade, and to maintain his son.
Appoints his wife until her death or remarriage, and then the trustees, as guardians of his son during his minority.
Witnesses - Theed Wm Pearse and Wm Maile, clerks to Messrs Pearse & Son, solicitors.
