The interviews were conducted by Mrs Diana Mehew, ne Franklin (born 1943) as part of an Open University oral history project. Mrs Mehew had lived at The Cross public house, Beeston, The Queen's Head, Sandy and The Wheatsheaf, Biggleswade between 1947 and 1958.
Scope and Content
The interviews cover general topics, including; descriptions and layout of the pub's interior and grounds, the daily work routine of the family and the role each played, the celebration of festivals such as Christmas, attitudes to drinking, war time hardship, pub games, customers and the good and bad sides to living and working in a public house.
Recording Consent Forms were completed by each participant and filed with the accession paperwork.
