Keith Watts, is mentioned as friend of the family and unpaid staff, along with the "Walker boys'. The celebration of Christmas is mentioned with the decoration of the off licence window and public bar. Serving behind the bar, under age is discussed and also the idea of curfew. Reference is made to 'dray days' when the beer was delivered by draymen, one Jim Green who came from Broom is recalled. Landlords Mick Hymer at the Lord Nelson in Sandy and Arthur Gill at the Red Lion are mentioned as well as Salisbury the wholesaler from Bedford. Aggie Walker, Annie Emsby, Queenie Wells,Win Mayston and Miss Aisbitt are mentioned as female customers, and one male regular, Clem Gray who won first prize in the pub raffle, a colour television. Humphrey Walker, local roadsweeper is also recalled as a regular customer. Jean's parents both belonged to the Licensed Victuallers Association, her father as Chairman of the Eastern District at one stage, and her mother the treasurer.
