  • Title
Circular letter from the Prioratus Restoration Fund notifying the recipient of an appeal for £600 to restore a medieval building identified as the Prioratus, or Town House, of the Prior of Newnham in Bedford and of plans to, at a later stage, fit it out to serve as a ‘Guild House’ for meetings, exhibitions etc. neither part of the scheme was ever implemented. The building was owned at the time of the letter by Wells & Winch and E.P. Rose and Son, and lay behind buildings in the High Street [the remains of the building were still standing behind Debenhams department store in 1995] The letter includes two sketches, one, the exterior, possibly after a sketch of 18815, the other an architect’s impression of the interior following planned restoration. Lists of contributors and the sums contributed and of names of the members of the Committee of Restoration are included.
