  • Title
    Woburn Congregational chapel The Chapel was built c. 1804 and was rebuilt in 1854 and enlarged in 1899. The last service took place in 1944. It was sold in 1953 and used as a studio by Derek Greaves, an artist, from about 1959. The building was demolished in 1988. Lease and release i) Susannah Rock, Woburn, spinster ii) Michael Castleden, Dissenting Minister John Circuitt, yeoman Joseph Circuitt, yeoman Samuel Handscomb, watchmaker William Cobb, younger, grocer George Gascoyen, gentleman James Fowler, common brewer Thomas Loton, yeoman (all of Woburn) Joseph Osborn, Dunstable, grocer Joseph Hill, Potsgrove, yeoman reciting that i) has permitted a Chapel Vestry room to be erected on piece of ground hereinafter mentioned for a place of worship by the Society of Protestant Dissenters of the Pedo Baptists denomination, and had allowed an other part of the ground to be used as a burial place for deceased members of the Congregation now in consideration of £50 paid to i) by ii) i) releases to ii) - piece of ground near Duck Lane, Woburn, (38p), formerly part of garden belonging to i) as is now fenced off by an oaken pale fence which is to be kept in repair by ii) E said John Circuitt N Peter Fane W Duke of Bedford S garden of i) - Chapel Vestry Room and other buildings on said piece of land - free liberty of ingress, egress and regress to said ground from entry in Duck Lane and across the yard and ground of i) to be held on trusts: To permit said Chapel to be used as place of worship by Pedo-Baptists To permit Vestry Room and Burial Ground also to be used To permit to officiate in the Chapel such Pedo Baptists as major part of members and communicants, whether men or women, shall elect at a specially called meeting, to officiate as their Minister or PastorWhen requested by 2/3rd part of such men and women 2 being members and communicants assembled at a cont meeting for that purpose, trust estates can be sold.Trust estates can be exchanged for other property in Woburn, as trustees and major part of men and women communicants and members should agreeTo hold money received on trust for benefit of the Society for the improvement of trust property, as 2/3rd of members and communicants at specially called meeting should agree If public worship discontinued for 2 years, then trustees to convey property for such persons or purposes (whether religious or civil) as 2/3rd of members, who shall have been members for one year previous, shall appoint by writingWhen trustees reduced to 3, then so many other protestant dissenters shall be appointed as will make numbers up to 11. Such appointment to be made by major part of men and women members present at a meeting for that purpose.
