Letter from Jane Johnson, Olney, to "Dear Neice", [Miss B Parker.]
Only reason she did not answer her former letters was the great deal of business she constantly has to do which makes her decline spending so much time in scribbling. Has a husband, three rude boys and a Girl to keep from Rags. Is concerned to hear of her frequent returns of illness. Miss Leapidge had severe fit of illness last winter but is recovered. Mrs Ingoldsby was so bad she thought she would have taken her flight to regions of eternal peace "but for the punishment of her sins.," she is likely to continue longer in the world.
Is concerned at Mr Woodhouse's misfortune. They were to have seen his family at Olney last month. "I believe I shall never come to Milton so long as I live". "My last little Boy is Nurs'd out in the Town, his Name is Charles Woolsey..". She has done her part and now resigns the Business to niece and her sister. "I heartily wish you both good sucess in the Honourable Employment". Niece's namesake Mrs Barbara Anselle went to live with Mrs Willis at Broughton, stayed there 7 weeks, then went to Mr Walker's at Stoke, and 2 days after was delivered of a son and heir. Mr Farrer was taken ill with smallpox a few days before that appointed for his marriage to a young lady in town with thirty thousand pounds. She nursed him day and night. "He is well worth her care.." Mrs Drake has a Boy and cousin Stratten a girl. Mr Terry Backwell, Sir John Chester and Fat Mr Knapp are all dead.
