Papers respecting the claim to Tithe hay etc., The Examination of Thomas Theobalds, Joseph Northfields and Robert Chapman and John Edwards Thomas Theobalds, 72 years of age. Born in Potton and lived there most of his life. During which tithe has been taken by Vicar of Potton. When about 15 he lived as servant with Rev Mr Woodhouse, then Vicar of Potton for 2 years, and assisted in fetching the tithe hay, which was then taken in kind and was carried to Vicarage for use of Vicar Joseph Northfield, 70, born Sutton. Has lived in Potton over 53 years. Knew former Vicar, Mr Woodhouse, who always took tithes of hay in kind. Robert Chapman. 70. Born at Potton, and has lived there most of his life. Knew former Vicar, Mr Woodhouse, who always took tithe hay in said parish in kind John Edwards, 50. Born in Potton where he has always lived. Has been a farmer for 20 or more years and has always considered tithes of Potton due to Vicar (except tithe of corn) and believes proprietors and occupiers of land in Potton always acknowledged the same and such tithes have been paid by a money payment All signed (some by mark) Witness Peter Pedley 12 November 1814
