    There are two obituaries for Charles H Dillon in local newspapers, the Beds Standard of 14 June 1901 (page 8, Wootton column) and the Beds Times of the same date (p.8 Col. 7). This is a summary of the contents of both: Charles Henry Dillon was the only son of the Hon Robert Villiers Dillon of Wootton House. His mother was Harriet Caroline Elizabeth daughter of the late Mr Adam Stuart Gladstone; he was also a grandson of the 3rd Earl of Clonbrook. He became 2nd lieutenant in the Rifle Brigade on 10 February 1898, Lieutenant in January 1900 and had been attached on special service with the Rhodesian Field Force since March 1900. He was wounded on 1st June 1901 near Standerton and died a week later aged 23 years.
