- Admin/biog historyThis council was established in 1891 and abolished in 1974 on the creation of Mid Bedfordshire District Council [records at DCM]. It originally comprised the following parishes: Clophill; Cranfield; Flitton; Flitwick; Gravenhurst; Haynes; Higham Gobion; Houghton Conquest; Lidlington; Marston Moretaine; Maulden; Millbrook; Pulloxhill Shillington; Silsoe; Steppingley; Westoning. In 1900 Woburn Rural District [RDW] was abolished and the following parishes added to Ampthill Rural District: Aspley Guise; Aspley Heath; Battlesden; Eversholt; Harlington; Hulcote & Salford; Husborne Crawley; Milton Bryan; Potsgrove; Ridgmont; Tingrith; Toddington; Woburn. Toddington was later transferred to Luton Rural District [RDL] Ampthill itself was an Urban District Council [UDA] The first chairman of Ampthill Rural District Council was Mr Edward Crouch (1895) The first chairman of Ampthill Urban District council was Mr Sam Seabrook (1895)
