The Odell Leather Company was incorporated in December 1928 when Gordon Soutar and Harry Thorne, of the Northampton company Soutar Thorne, purchased the leather dressing factory in Odell; the factory had been built in 1920 but closed in 1922. The company expanded and contracted over the next fifty years including having a components offshoot and also farming battery chickens. For a full history of the company up to 1978 see the commemorative pamphlet produced to mark 50 years of the company (copy in pamphlet box 160 or see Z1251/1/7). Robin Gardner joined Odell Leather Industries in 1954 he became chief leather technician in the early 1960s. The material consists of photographs and printed ephemera relating to the company. Many of the photographs were used in the pamphlet recording the history of the company from 1928-1978.
