- Scope and ContentThe inaugural meeting of the Luton Electrical Society was held on the 20th June 1944 and was attended by many prominent figures from Vauxhall, Luton Council, Luton Technical College and the Electrical Trade Union. The original objects of the Society were to: - increase electrical knowledge generally by means of lectures, papers and encouragement of higher education facilities in electrical subjects; - provide a forum for discussion on electrical matters; - provide an informal meeting ground for those interested in electricity. By 1945 the Society could boast membership figure in excess of 200, indeed, in the same month it was deemed necessary to form a students section of the Society. The Society held its last meeting on the 10th July 2003 where it reported on the decision to close… 'we should not look on the winding up of the Society as a failure but a success it has been going for 58 years, no other electrical society is still in existence we are the last'.
