Letters Patent granted by Charles I to Arnold Spencer. By Letters Patent of 3rd Jan. 1628 Arnold Spencer made navigable the River Ouse from St. Neots, Hunts to "..within four miles of Bedford.." and is making navigable the River Stour from Sudbury, Suffolk to Manningtree, Essex. Arnold Spencer to be given exclusive right to the carrying of goods along these stretches of river.
