Eric Stonebanks was born 5 Jan 1904, and educated at Bedford Modern School. He was chief clerk of Bedford County Health Department for 19 years, before being appointed Secretary to Bedford Hospital Management Committee at the inception of the NHS in 1948. He retired in 1969.
