Scope and Content
The year entries give the amount paid by the apprentice to continue training.
Also contained in the volume are the following:
- minute of 6 Nov 1945 that journeymen's wages of stationers' apprentices would be £6 per week;
- note of agreement of 16 Nov 1950 between (1) London Master Printers Association and (2) London Society of Compositors reducing apprenticeship indenture terms from 7 to 6 years;
- scale of wages for adult apprentices in1951 based on a percentage of a journeyman's minimum rate, rising from 35% at age 17 to 100% at age 27;
- agreement of 1953 that the apprenticeship term of David Vester Norris as a bookbinder would be five years instead of six since he was aged sixteen years eight months;
- minute of 19 Jan 1954 of approval of recommendation by S.G.Clifford that stationers' apprentices received a percentage of £9/3/-, the highest journeyman's wage with percentages rising from 30% in first year of apprenticeship to 60% in 5th year with a cost of living bonus of 27/- per week at age 18 with 4/- per week for those aged less;
- minute of 11 May 1954 of agreement that the company would no longer charge apprenticeship premiums;
- memorandum by Gordon O.Davies of 24 May 1956 stating that rates of pay for stationers' apprentices would now be based on a percentage of the highest rate paid to a craftsman - the lithographic machine minder who received £13 per week - percentages varied from 30% at age 16 to 70% at age 20;
- transfer of obligations of 16 Apr 1963 concerning apprentice John Cyril Jordan from Waterlow & Sons Limited to S.Hawkins (Rulers) Limited of Southwark Street London SE1
