    The Bedford Amateur Musical Society was formed on 16 January 1867. "Amateur" was removed from the title in 1880. The Society was wound up in 1932 and restarted in 1941. "Musical" was changed to "Choral" in 1988 A history of the Society by Mike Benson appears in the Bedfordshire Magazine, Winter 1991, Vol.23, no.179 pp.100-104 and a longer study by the same author is published as Volume 94 of the Bedfordshire Historical Record Society, 'Bedford's Musical Society: a history of Bedford Choral Society,' 2015 [see X817/7/4].
