Letter from John Newton, Leighton Buzzard, to Mr Bassett, giving details of purchasers at an auction sale. The Misses Clare would like to have the offer of the nearby property. 'The enclosed Extract from the Conveyance to your Grandfather gives the particulars..' 30 April 1900
attached: Extract from conveyance to late J D Bassett, Esq, dated 21 June 1864, relating to: firstly - 4 cottages in Leighton Buzzard near to Bentham's Ford
- garden ground and buildings adjoining in occupations of Edward Woodman, Samuel Hickford and Joseph Stevens, and the remaining one late in occupation of - Thurton
Sites of said cottages etc once formed part of Gates or Yates Close (1a 2r 30p) secondly - close of pasture next Benthams Ford, with homestead belonging (1a 2r 18p) which forms remainder of said Gates or Yates Close and is now in occupation of James Young
With note that at auction sale in 1864 the first described premises (Lot 1) were bought by Thomas Forth at £220 and sold by him to Mr Bassett for £240.
Mr Bassett bought 2ndly described property for £365 and paid c. £17 to £18 for the enfranchisement
