- TitleBuilding Project Series Borough of Luton Files
- Scope and ContentThe files consist, mainly, of correspondence files relating to individual buildings (mostly schools) and to 'Minor Works' (e.g. electrical and mechanical installations, redecorations, minor alterations etc) and 'Maintenance' (described as such in the catalogue) rather than large 'Projects' such as new builds and large scale extensions (although where these exist the description 'Project Papers' has been used in the catalogue and, where papers relating to the selection and acquistion of the site for a new building exist, the tern 'Site file' is used). Unlike the strict segregation of files for a particular building or minor works project or maintenance of a particular building, employed by the County Architect's Dept (see CA2), the Luton (and Bedford see CA7) Borough files for individual buildings (i.e. rather than those files which are subject-based) contain all or any of the following: correspondence with General and Sub Contractors, specifications, drawings (plans, sections and elevations), tendering documents, copy contracts, memoranda (Borough Architect to Borough Education Officer and vice versa, etc), correspondence with the DES, Architect's Instructions, Planning Application papers etc. 'Project Papers' should normally be expected to contain at least some of these used as examples. With the exception of drawings, only in the case of files where a few specific items only have been kept or those which include an item or items of particular subject or general interest are details recorded in the description given in the list. the former file and transfer box (TB) reference for each item are given in parenthesis at the end of each entry in the list.
