The scrapbooks were made in response to a competition sponsored by The Bedfordshire Times; the County Federation of Women’s Institutes, the Parish Councils’ Association and the Rural Community Council. The idea was based on a competition that had recently been run in Northamptonshire. The scrapbooks were to ‘deal with the village from 1800 to the present day, with its buildings, roads, fields, farms and families, railway or river. It was ‘strongly urged that some scrapbooks should be deposited in the County Record Office’.
