Admin/biog history
Until the late 19th century the company was known as Bedford Plate Glass Insurance Company and was involved in insuring plate glass for local shopkeepers and businesses such as Goldings, ironmongers on High Street. In order to take on more general insurance business the company became Bedford General Insurance Company and traded as such until the 1960's when they transferred to Zurich Insurance Company who had originally taken over the business in the 1930's. They traded as Zurich with an office at 11 Goldington Road (until early 1955 they had been operating at 125 High Street) until the 90's when the office closed and was transferred to a regional office in Milton Keynes.
Archival history
When the Bedford branch closed Zurich took what records they wanted for their own archive but didn't want this minute book which Mr. Keeble kept until depositing it with the record office on the 9th June 2005.
