G A Gearey (1868 - 1952) was a keen photographer and antiquarian. He combined these interests by taking photographs which concentrated on disappearing aspects of Bedford, and by collecting and copying old photographs of Bedford and Bedfordshire. During the Second World War he worked in the photographic department of the Bedfordshire Times where his knowledge of old Bedford was of great value. For more detailed information see his obituary in the Bedford Record of 8th April 1952. The Gearey collection was deposited in the Record Office in 1953. It includes a set of glass plate negatives and a partial set of positive prints and some older photographs. Many of the photographs have been published by Richard Wildman. Please use the published source before ordering the original. Mr Wildman's books can be found on the searchroom shelves at 130 BED
