  • Title
Quarto volume: "Bedfordshire arms" Phillipps MS. 181; p.3 sepia drawing of Bedford bridge (without gatehouse; but also without lamps as shown in Torrington diaries, iv); p.9 sketch of brass of Thos. & Kath. Rotherham; pp.12-39 drawings, mainly watercolour, of coats of arms, nearly all Bedfordshire:- Haseldon, Mantey, Barnardistone, Mordaunt, Armiger, Daniel, Vaux, Cheyney, Denton, Crompton, Blundell, Abbis, Pemberton, Bromsall, Simcotts, Cockayne, Neale, Day, Orlebar, Cary, Tyrell, and a few unnamed. (The watermark is 1816, and the general appearance of the volume is consistent with this date. The stone of the new bridge, however, was laid in 1811; and therefore if the book is 1816 the drawing of he bridge must have been copied from another drawing or print and not done from life. The Bromsall coat of arms is headed: "Thos. Bromsall of Beeston now high Sheriff of Bedford" Bromsall was sheriff 1714-15. This entry therefore remains unexplained.)
