  • Title
Printed order by Quarter Sessions held at Ampthill The Custos Rotulorum, Robert Earl of Ailesbury, being present, to all constables and churchwardens to present "both at our Quarter Sessions and monthly Meeting, all such in their respective Parishes, as shall absent themselves from their own Parish Church upon any Sunday", also those who come late or do not behave reverently; "that all such laws as have been provided for the reducing all Dissenters to a thorow Conformity shall be forthwith put into a speedy and vigorous Execution." 14 January 1684/5. Followed by an order from the Bishop of Lincoln, seeing that "our Dissenting Brethren will not conform", it is necessary that the law should be put into execution for the good of the Dissenters themselves; "for afflictio dat intellectum;... I require all the clergy of my Diocess within the County of Bedford to publish this Order the next Sunday after it be tender'd to them." 1685.
