1485819 LAC Stanley Shaw, AMES 108. Letter to Alec at 326 Ampthill Road, Bedford, forwarded. Last saw Alec in Mons in June. South of France different to anything they expected. Wellincourt a paradise compared to this. Lodeve is the name of our new abode - Lowdive would have been more apt. The town is the dirtiest under the sun, and the billet chosen for us the dirtiest in the town. The officers mean well no doubt, but its easy to forget the discomforts of others if you are billeted in a millionaires mansion and are living in the lap of luxury, you can't beat this democracy of ours can you? Flight Lft. Barton has been repatriated, replaced by Squadron Leader Fearnside who was with the 9000 unit at Reifenburg. Wallace the Canadian has also left the unit, he volunteered for Eastern Service and was returned to Canada for draft leave, now that the Japs have packed in he may be left at home. Other lads are on loan, Eric, Mackenzie, Les Thompson, Corporal Hoady, Sergeant Ron Ackerly. Demob very disappointing.
