Scope and Content
The picture is from an aerial viewpoint with the Cauldwell Street bridge over the railway line in the foreground and the iron works in the middle – a train is on the track by the foundry and a figure, presumably Garibaldi, is shaking hands with one of two figures who are welcoming those who have descended from the train Howards. The factory has ‘Welcome Garibaldi the Brave and the Good’ written on its façade and a large number of people are gathered on the bridge and in the road ouside the works. The bridge is decorated with flags.
