  • Scope and Content
    (I) Bequeaths to his sister Tabitha Lucas, for her life-time or until she marries, his cottage in Bridge-End, adjoining close of pasture ground (3 acres), 3 acres of arable land (3 roods of which lie in Chellington field, 5 roods lie in Barrack Mead field, 1 acre lies in Moor field), and 7 roods lying unequally in three fields namely Chellington meadow, Nurr meadow and Wigney meadow.. (II) Bequeaths the above-mentioned property, after the death or marriage of his sister Tabitha, to his nephew William Hannah (son of his brother-in-law John Hannah). (III) Bequeaths £15 to his nephew John Hannah. This sum is due immediately after his death on mortgage of a piece of land called "Land close" in Chellington. Also bequeaths the same nephew £5 to be paid within three months of his decease. (IV) Bequeaths £40 to his niece Sarah Lucas,(daughter of his brother William Lucas), to be paid to her within three months of his death. Also bequeaths her for ever the tenure or occupation of his cottage in Bridge-End, after the death of his brother-in-law Thomas Clifton. (V) Bequeaths to his niece Hannah Thomas (wife of Stephen Thomas), and after her life-time to her son William, those bays of buildings called the house, entry, millhouse, mealhouse and new barn, and half the orchard abutting towards the east and south. Also bequeaths her 5 shillings. (VI) Bequeaths to his niece Mary Goodes (wife of William Goodes), and after her life-time to her daughter Ann Goodes, the shop, matting shop, wood, barn, stables, hovel, sheds, little yard, great yard and the remaining half of the orchard. Also gives her 5 shillings. (VII) Bequeaths 20 shillings to his sister Dinah Hannahs. Tabitha (his sister) is to be allowed to live in his dwelling house for twelve months after his death, and is to inherit the residue of his estate (both real and personal) after payment of his funeral expenses and debts. Witnessed by Elizabeth Charter Griffith, Morgan Williams and Frank Rudd. Proved the 7th August 1742.
