    Inquisition post Mortem held at Potton, 28 Mar 21 Hen VIII (1530), before Sim. Fitz, escheator of Beds., on death of Wm Caryngton of Ramsey, Hunts., son and heir of Thos Caryngton, son and heir of Wm Caryngton, whereby Wm Caryngton of Ramsey. on evidence of Rich Mahley, Thos Whyte Bred, Jn Cranwell, Wm Hukull, Clement Est, Thos Bromsall, Rich Staplow, Jn Cater, Rich Flecher, Jn Myton & Hen Rawlegh was found to have been seised of: -1 capital mess., with 46ac ar. & mea. with appurts. in Eyen, Gt. Gravenhurst, Flitton & Silsoe, called Caryngtons The sd. Wm. Caryngton, the grandfather, enfeoffed Jn Pate of Pegsdon, Thos Eyton of Pirton, Hen Mylward of Gravenhurst & Rich Mylward of Shillington to hold sd. property to use of sd. Wm Caryngton, the grandfather & his heirs. After this the sd. Thos Eyton,Hen Mylward of Gravenhurst & Rich Mylward of Shillington died, leaving Jn Pate, who outlived them. Thos Caryngton, the fath. of Wm Caryngton, by his last will left: to daughter, Joan, profit of 2acs land in Flyton Fld. until she marries & then it is ' to remene agayne to the place' to wife, house & lands till son reaches 18yrs. 'so that she make no strype ne waste' When son comes of age he is to pay moth. 1 mark p,a, If son dies then wife to have house and lands, & if son has no heirs male then property is to pass to bro. of testator, & if he dies & leaves no heir, then property to be sold. Jurors swear that house & 15acs. land mentioned in will as being in Gt. Gravenhurst is held of Lawr. Snowe of the manor of Gravenhurst at a rent of 5s. p.a. & they value it at 20s. 15acs. lie in flds. of Fyldon & are held of Hen Grey, knt., of his manor of Wrest at a rent of 12d & 1 ? p.a. 6acs lie in flds. of Eye & are held of Thos Rotheram, knt., of his manor of Aspley Bury at a rent of 14d p,a. & they value it at 4s. 10acs. lie in flds. of Fylden & Silsoe and are held of Wm West, Prior of Order of St John of Jerusalem in England, of his manor of Flitton, rent 12d. p.a., and they value it at 8s. Jury say that Thos Caryngton died 16 Jun 18 Hen VIII (1526) & that Wm Caryngton, his son & near heir was aged 17yrs. or more & that he died 26 Jun 20 Hen VIII (1528) by virtue of all which Wm Caryngton, uncle of sd.
