Dear Mrs Strange,
The greetings and congratulations from you and your family were a very welcome addition to our pleasure on the 30th, and Helen and I wish to thank you, and through you - if we may- all who shared in the kind message.
I need not tell you that it was a great pleasure to have such a large proportion of the clan present with us on the day. Among the many things for which we had to be thankful is Halford. He was my good firm friend, before he was our son, and - whilst not always endorsing his policy I have followed his fortunes through ups and downs with pride in view of the straightness of his course even more than in view of his ability.
He was a material factor in all that went to make the family meeting a happy time. We have been glad to hear of his pleasant crossing and safe arrival in France. Will you be so very kind as to convey to your son and daughter our best thanks for their good wishes which accompanied yours. I see I have said this before - this was interrupted and I am now writing on the 4th, but it will at least show you what thought has been uppermost in my mind. Hilda and her boy - who is uncommonly good though teething - remain with us until Halford returns anyway.
I hope you are keeping well and have no great strain upon you in these days of general stress.
May this anniversary next year find the world once more at peace.
With our kindest regards
I am, dear Mrs Strange,
Sincerely yours
Theodore Neild
