Edward Harris Strange to Samuel May Strange 2 Feb 1868 Leominster 2.2.68 My dear Samuel I received thy letter a few days ago and was pleased to find thou wast comfortably settled in thy new occupation at Bristol and trust it will prove advantageous [in] every way, the stipend is pretty good for a beginner, and if Wedmore & Co. [are] liberal people they may be induced to work the "Screw" up to 150/- this would mainly depend on thy business traits, & executive capabilities. Thou must at any rate make an effort to deserve an advancement - We buy a few sugars from Bristol, and also soap, but the greater part of out crushed sugars we get from the Clyde Sugar men - Myles & Hagg have the largest share - Edward's letter is very interesting, and would have been still more so had he been able to say that he expects soon to get some work to do, but B.Tatham does not hold out a very bright prospect - he must persevere till he does succeed - I always thought London was the right place for a person of his abilities to succeed as an accountant and as Edward & James as well as one or two of their leading clerks had promised to keep him on I think he should have tried it, he would have been under the watchful eyes of his friends - Dear love From thy affectionate Father E.H.Strange Envelope: penny red S.M.Strange Postmark: LEOMINSTER Wedmore & Co 3.2.1868 1, Bridge St Bristol
