Edward Harris Strange to Gertrude Strange 17 Dec 1860 Almeley 12/17/60 My dear Gertrude Thine of the 15th Instant arrived here about 11 o'clock today, the usual time for the delivery of the London Letters. All London letters which leave that place by the coming mail are brought to Hereford by rail & are forwarded from thence at 6 o'clock A.M. by a four horse Mail Coach and reach Willersley (11/2 miles from Eardisley) at 8 - the bags are conveyed to Eardisley by a one Man Mail, where they are sorted & forwarded to this place by another Man Mail thro' a village of the name of Kinnersley (a round about Way) and get here about eleven.- If Kington is put on the letter they are often two or three days before they make their appearance.- The next question I have to answer is respecting myself, to which I am very thankful I can give a decided opinion - viz I am quite well and have been ever since I have been here. I have not had the slightest cold since I have been here, nor any other bodily complaint - this is the truth. The weather is now fine, dry and very pleasant, which is highly appreciated here - About 10 days ago there was a great flood here, such as has not been seen for several years. Two or three meadows were much flooded and in some places mud & stones were left nearly a foot thick - in going across the alluvial deposits a few days back I found a dead duck which have suppose fell a victim to the violence of the rushing waters & here found a watery grave. I am glad to hear dear M.E. is better - My thoughts have been often at Camden Road today - dearest love to M.E. & thy Cousins & Uncle & Aunt from Thy Ever Affectionate Father E.H.S.
