My dear nephew E.H.S.
I duly received thy letter announcing the acceptable present of a hare, which followed it the next day, and for which we are much obliged, and having dined off it yesterday and the day before I can speak to its having proved a very fine one,- thy bountiful supply of good things shews the kind remembrance of thy friends toward thee, to which thou art entitled, and I would by no means characterise thee as giving away only what thou couldst not conveniently use thyself, far from it.-
It always affords us pleasure to hear that thou & thy dear children are well.- The very severe weather we have had lately, seems more enjoyable to them, than to us, who cannot stir far from the fireside.
I am glad to hear that dear Mary Ellen continues well, and is happy at School, and will thank thee to give our dear love to her when thou next writes.-
The last account we received from our dear brother at Ipswich was an improv'd one, but it is now a week or two ago.-
I received a letter from Emily Hooper yesterday, she tells me that her cousin Charles May paid them a visit one day last week, we do indeed greatly miss the society of our dear Sister & Niece, but we keep up a pretty brisk correspondence, and we expect to have a visit from Emily very soon, I find they have already written to Hughs's to have a bed secured for them, at the Y.M.- their Brother Edward is now settled in apartments at Southampton, with liberty to investigate an engineering business there for a twelvemonth, with a view to taking a part in it, should it prove desirable.-
It is now pretty much concluded to unite the meetings of Gracechurch St in Devonshire House in one Monthly Meeting, and to discontinue the 1st day meeting at Church Street, keeping open the 4th day evening meeting for the use of all the members of the Quarterly Meeting.- this I conclude will be acted upon after the next Q.M. when I shall either go to Southwark or Peckham, neither of which I shall like as well.-
I must now with our united love conclude - it being so cold that I can scarcely write and subscribe myself Thy affectionate Aunt, S.Arch.
