My dear Cousin
I have so much wished to write to thee today, that I do so altho' I have but a few minutes before the post goes out.-
I am rather uncomfortable at having given thee reason to expect me at Ampthill before my return home, not that a visit from me can ever be of any great importance to my friends - but because my dear Uncle May told me thou wouldst be disappointed if I could not go.-
However I must tell thee now, I begin to think this agreeable finish to my present sojourn from home must be given up -
I have left home in a very unsatisfactory state of feeling owing to the confusion & uncertainty of our future proceedings as well as some present things.- and to tell the truth, (though very pleasant to be with my kind cousins here) I wish I had not come, and am already growing anxious to return, as I propose doing this day week.-
Thou wilt I hope excuse my thus changing my plan, & pray do not attribute it to any decrease of interest in thee or thy dear children, for I can most truly assure thee it would give me as much pleasure to look round at you all as I ever anticipated, which is not saying a little -
Thou wilt I believe have both my Uncle May & Louisa May with thee at the time I should have looked to for accepting thy offered escort from Luton to thy house, so that there will be no lack of sufficient society to thee if I do not come.-
I have no time to add more now, than that a few days will throw more light perhaps on some of our concerns at home, when I can have time to write, if, by then I feel at more liberty & could go to Ampthill, which however I now think unlikely - to say so much, as I do not like that thou shouldst be still too much expecting me -
With much love to the sweet children & thyself - in haste I am
Thy very affectionate Cousin
Louisa Hooper
