Henry Vincent to Edward Harris Strange 15 June 1849 Bedford 15th June 1849 Dear Friend I fear I cannot come to you, I must return to London in the morning, and I should have to postpone another engagement if I come next week - otherwise I should have been most happy to spend a few hours with you & chat over the marvellous events which are turning the old world upside down - People who are entirely absorbed in business - and who seldom read or think - little know what is coming. They put their faith in the Times, rather than the Bible - and will be thunderstruck by-and-by - I feel much consoled in the wide popularity of Peace principles amongst us, they will help to keep our people in the pathway of peaceful reform - You will see Nice to Paris is agitated again in consequence & the infamous interference of the French government with the {Moruceau} people - The folly of the Moderates in France is paving the way for the Red Republic - We shall have confusions in the continuance for some time to come - Canning prophesies "war of opinion" has commenced - With kind regards, I am Yours sincerely Henry Vincent. Envelope. Penny red.
