Title
Edward Harris Strange to Mary Ellen Strange 6 Aug 1847
Ampthill 8 mo.6.1847
My dear Mary Ellen
As I am sending a note to thy Uncle Francis I thought I should like to give thee a little note just to say what a great Comfort it is to have dear Mamma so much better again.
She is now so much improved that I hope in a few days to see her well enough to sit up a little, & in a few days more perhaps we may see her walking about.
I hope thy cousin Ellen & thee are enjoying each others company -
Aunt Caroline & cousin Margaret are still at Ampthill waiting most attentively on dear Mamma - but I suppose we shall loose [sic] the former early next week -
Grandpapa is using his pruning knife in the garden, cutting the straggling branches that project over the gravel walks -
Thy old favourite hen is still sitting in the manger, she has only 8 eggs left & I fear will have but few chickens.
Thy poor pigeon walks about the yard, regardless of dogs & cats - he is very black & dirty & sadly wants washing -
Thou must ask cousin Louisa [May] to give thee a scrap of paper, & pen & ink & then thou must write me a nice long letter -
Give my dear love to Aunt Jane & Cousins
I am thy Affectionate Papa.
