John Strange to Edward Harris Strange 14 Sept 1846 Whembly [ie Wembley] Sept. 14-1846 Dear Brother I have been a long time in answering your kind letter and invitation to Ampthill - I did intend spending a few days with you and going on to Herefordshire but I am afraid I shall never be able to do either - My Cough has never left me for one day I have kept about till these last two Months when I found my strength going fast. If I go across the fields my legs ake that at times I can scarcely get home again - There is little doubt but mine is a Consumptive Cough and therefore the Doctors give me very little hopes. I am going to London on Friday next to have a Consultation of the Physicians at the University College Hospital where I shall have the best advice in London - If they do me no good I shall have no more Doctoring but submit quietly and patiently to the will of God - We have had a trying Summer - The Children all had the Meazels the beginning of Hay time and My Wife large in the family way but I am happy to say she was Confined the last day of August and is doing quite well - an ["other" scratched out] girl making seven girls and one boy - I hope Mrs Strange and family are quite well I should be most happy to see you here - May every happiness attend you is wish of your affectionate Brother John Strange Mr Edward Strange Postmarks : PAID AMPTHILL Ampthill DC SP16 Bedfordshire 13SP13 1846 1846 [Ann May died13.3.1847 see Ann.
